Test Before You Order

Sticker materials and adhesives can perform differently depending on the surface they’re applied to, so testing is always recommended before placing a full order.

If your stickers will be applied to flat, clean surfaces (such as standard packaging or boxes), our sample pack is a great way to see how our materials and foil finishes perform in practice.

For more demanding applications - such as uneven surfaces, textured materials, curved products, or environments where moisture may be present - we recommend ordering a small test run of your design (e.g. 5 sample copies). This allows you to check how the adhesive performs based on your specific sticker size, shape, surface and foil combination.

Taking the time to test ensures you get the right result first time, with no surprises.

Artwork Requirements

Foil printing uses a different setup from standard printing, particularly when preparing foil elements such as logos, text, and fine detail.

Following the guidelines below helps ensure your artwork can move straight into production without delays. Where setup issues are present, our pre-press team may need to return your artwork for adjustments before proofing, which can lead to extended turnaround times - particularly unwelcome on tight schedules!

If you’re unsure, we recommend reviewing these before supplying your artwork or using one of our templates to avoid common setup issues.

The Basics

  • Allow 2mm of bleed around all artwork for cutting tolerances.
  • Format all artwork to CMYK.
  • Set your resolution to a minimum of 300DPI.
  • Supply your artwork in PDF, JPG or fully packaged AI formats.
  • Keep all text, logos and foreground images within a 3mm safe zone from the cut edge.
  • Separate all foil elements from CMYK artwork, place foil elements on a separate page, and supply as 100% K (black). See our helpful guide about how to supply artwork for foil printing.

Die Cut Or Kiss Cut (Shaped) Products Including Stickers

  • Indicate cut lines using a 1pt magenta line on a separate layer or separate page.

Folded, Perforated or Drilled Products

  • Indicate any crease lines, perforation lines or drill holes using a 1pt magenta line on a separate layer or separate page.

Expert Tips From Our Print Team

Based on how foil behaves during the production process, these are the most common issues we see - and how to avoid them:

  • Avoid very fine lines or small text in foil, as detail can be lost during application

  • Keep foil elements at least 3mm away from trim edges to prevent cracking

  • Make sure foil layers are supplied separately from CMYK artwork to avoid setup delays

  • Don’t expect foil to behave like ink or toner - metallic finishes reflect light differently and require more defined shapes

  • Use strong contrast between the foil and the background to ensure key elements really stand out
