Professional Foil Packaging Printing for Premium Brands

Accurate artwork preparation, controlled foil registration, and carefully selected packaging materials all contribute to achieving clean, consistent results throughout production. Our Yorkshire-based team works with brands, retailers, independent businesses, and creative agencies to produce professionally finished packaging for retail, eCommerce, gifting, and promotional applications.
Every packaging project comes with different branding, structural, and production requirements, which is why we provide support throughout the process, from packaging artwork setup and foil placement through to proofing and final print inspection. Whether you're launching a new product range, refining existing branded packaging, or producing limited-edition packaging for a campaign or event, each order is individually checked and professionally finished before dispatch.
Durable Paper Stock For Product Packaging
All of our custom foil packaging is produced on 400mic Folding Box Board (255gsm), selected for its smooth coated surface, structural strength, and reliable foil application.
It provides a controlled surface that helps maintain accurate foil registration and clean edge definition throughout production. This makes it well suited to branded packaging, retail packaging, presentation boxes, subscription packaging, and promotional product packaging where both appearance and structural reliability are important.
Best for: Luxury retail packaging, cosmetic packaging, branded product boxes, subscription packaging, and promotional packaging
Expert insight: Smooth coated surfaces help maintain sharper foil detail across folds, edges, and structural packaging layouts.

What Makes Our Foil Packaging Different
Foil printing is a specialist process, and the final result depends heavily on how each element - foil application, and design - is handled.
At The Foil Printing Co, all our energy goes into foil printing rather than general printing. This specialisation allows us to offer a wider range of options than most, but more importantly, to guide each project based on what will actually produce the best result.
From size and shape through to foil coverage and finishing, every part of our process can be tailored to your vision - not just for flexibility, but to ensure the finished packaging looks and performs exactly as intended.
In short, our foil printing process gives you more flexibility than standard online printers, and we can’t wait for you to see what we can do!
Sizes & Custom Shapes
We offer a range of standard packaging sizes, as well as custom sizing that might not fit conventional formats. For our distinctive packaging projects, we use die-cutting to enable fully bespoke shapes.
In practice, these custom shapes actually shape part of the branding - whether it’s to create something more memorable, or to reinforce a visual identity beyond print alone.
Exterior Foil Application for Custom Packaging
Metallic foil is applied across the exterior panels of the packaging, helping logos, typography, borders, and branded design elements stand out more clearly within the finished presentation. This allows foil to remain highly visible throughout retail display, shipping, and the customer unboxing experience.
Foil can be used selectively for cleaner, more understated branding, or applied more boldly to create stronger visual contrast and shelf impact across the outer packaging design. The choice of foil finish can also significantly influence how the finished packaging is perceived, from refined gold and rose gold presentation through to more vibrant holographic or coloured metallic effects.
Striking the right balance between foil coverage, spacing, and packaging layout is important for maintaining clarity while still creating a distinctive and premium finish. Our team reviews each packaging design carefully during proofing to help ensure foil placement works effectively across the final structure.
Why Matt Lamination is Required
All foil-printed packaging is finished with a matt laminate across the outer packaging surface. This creates a smooth, consistent foundation for metallic foil application, helping ensure clean foil detail, reliable adhesion, and accurate reproduction throughout production.
The laminated surface also helps maintain cleaner foil edges and more consistent visual results across packaging panels, folds, and structural layouts, supporting a more refined finished appearance throughout the packaging design.
Matt lamination additionally helps protect the outer packaging from scuffing, marking, and general handling during retail display, shipping, and customer use, while giving the finished packaging a smoother and more premium feel in hand.
Can I Put Foil on the Inside and Outside of My Packaging?
Metallic foil is applied to the exterior surfaces of our custom packaging, where it can be used to highlight logos, typography, borders, patterns, and other branded design elements. Foil can be applied across multiple exterior panels, allowing anything from subtle branding through to larger, more decorative foil layouts.
Currently, foil is applied to the outside of the packaging only and is not available on internal surfaces. The amount of foil used is largely determined by the design itself, although many brands find that using foil selectively creates stronger contrast and helps key branding elements stand out more clearly.
If you're unsure how much foil to use, our team can review your artwork during proofing and advise on approaches that balance visual impact, readability, and overall presentation.
You can also explore our packaging templates to see how different structural layouts impact foil placement, panel design, and overall packaging presentation before preparing your artwork.
How Do I Know Which Packaging Style Is Right for My Product?
The most suitable packaging style depends on the size, shape, weight, and intended use of your product. Some packaging formats, such as window boxes and hang boxes, are designed to maximise product visibility and retail impact, while others, including drawer boxes and boxes with lids, are better suited to premium presentation, gifting, and creating a more memorable unboxing experience.
When choosing your packaging, it's important to consider how the product will be presented, displayed, and handled by customers. Factors such as product dimensions, weight, retail requirements, and branding objectives can all influence which packaging structure is most appropriate.
Our packaging is designed for product presentation rather than protective shipping. For products that are wet, leak-prone, or sensitive to moisture, we recommend using an appropriate inner liner, protective sleeve, or sealed bag to help protect both the product and the packaging itself.
Is Foil Packaging Safe for Food, Cosmetics, and Other Products?
Our custom foil packaging is commonly used for cosmetics, candles, gifting, branded merchandise, subscription boxes, playing cards, and a wide range of retail products.
However, our packaging is produced within a commercial print manufacturing environment rather than a food-safe production facility. As a result, products intended for direct food contact should be placed within a suitable inner wrapper, liner, pouch, or separate product container before being housed within the packaging.
The same principle may apply to cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, supplements, and other products where additional protection, hygiene, or regulatory requirements need to be considered. In these cases, the packaging typically acts as the outer presentation packaging rather than the primary product container.
Do Packaging Boxes Arrive Flat or Ready Assembled?
Your custom foil packaging is supplied flat and ready for assembly. Double-sided tape is applied during production where required, allowing the backing strip to be removed and attached to the corresponding panel to complete the build.
Supplying packaging flat helps reduce storage space requirements while making larger quantities easier to handle and distribute.
Assembly requirements vary between packaging styles, but most formats can be constructed quickly without specialist equipment.
Can I Use My Own Packaging Template or Box Design?
You can supply your own packaging artwork, box design, packaging template, or box net for production if you prefer. Some customers work with their own designers and provide fully prepared files, while others use our packaging templates as a starting point for creating artwork. Both approaches can produce excellent results when prepared correctly.
Before production begins, all supplied artwork is reviewed by our pre-press team to ensure it is suitable for the print and foil processes. This allows us to identify any technical issues relating to foil placement, bleed, safe areas, or structural alignment before the packaging enters production. Once the artwork has been reviewed, we'll provide a digital proof for your approval before moving into production.
If you don't already have a packaging template, you can explore our packaging templates to find the appropriate format for your chosen packaging style. These templates are designed to help you position artwork correctly, understand how the finished packaging will be assembled, and prepare production-ready files with confidence.
